eternal encouragement

Prayers for Prodigals ~ James Banks

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word ~ 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

Eternal encouragement… those words stood out on the page. Then I read the prayer that followed and it felt as if my heart had written the words.

A friend shared a copy of a book with me recently and with all the wedding details going on, I put it beside my bed, intending to pick it up and get into the book in a few days.  So here it is a few weeks later and I am now able to focus, to put away the distractions, to let the words speak to my heart and give me the encouragement I need.  Prayers for Prodigals – a gift of encouragement from a friend.  I also count my prodigal as a gift because I am on my knees, learning patience and the need for my own forgiveness, and the continual dependence on God through prayer.

“Eternal encouragement.  I love those words. Eternal encouragement and good hopeI really need both now. Not just for me, but for my child {yes, he is grown but he will always be my child}.  He is far from you and needs to come home and he needs me to pray.  He needs me to pray now more than ever before, and you alone can help me do that.  Help me to pray, Lord Jesus.  I ask you to teach me to pray.  Help me to pray every day, throughout the day.  Fill me with your Spirit and let your love flow through me into my child’s life.  Help me to persevere in praying ‘day and night’ so that I will see real progress in my child’s heart.  Jesus, you said that ‘everything is possible for him who believes.‘ I do believe.  Help me overcome my unbelief.  Save my son, Lord!  I thank you in advance for what you will do to rescue him from the ‘dominion of darkness’ and bring him back into your ‘kingdom of light’ and love.  I believe that you will do this because ‘we live by faith, not by sight.’  I believe that you will do this because you have promised it.  Your Word says that ‘from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children.’  Thank you for the eternal encouragement you alone can give.  I am encouraged! You are God, and you answer prayer!  Your ‘love never fails’!  You have brought my own prodigal heart home and I thank you that you will do the same for my child.  I love you, O Lord, my strength and I praise you for the day when my child will {return} to you!”

About beegee10

I am a follower of Jesus on the journey of discovering His real, lasting joy through God's grace and thanksgiving. Several years ago, I married my best friend, whom I met in kindergarten many years ago. Life choices took each of us on separate paths, but Divine Appointment brought our paths back together. It's exciting to share this journey with my sweet man - a man who loves God more than he loves me! What a gift!! As a young woman I prayed for God to send a godly man like my daddy to pursue me. I just wasn't listening and abiding when I should have been. Good news in HIS time and in HIS grace, HE did! Not only does my sweet man love me, but he loves my three grown kids as if they were his own. He shares their joys and he hurts when they hurt. I love to hear him pray for each of them daily as we begin and end our days. View all posts by beegee10
