as the deer pants

As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God.
Psalm 42:1  HCSB

During a recent study, my hunter shared a beautiful picture with us from one of his trips.  Being a bow hunter means he spends quite a bit of time sitting in a tree stand waiting – observing and waiting.  On this particular day, he had been reading  {I should say, listening on his iPod} Psalm 42.  As he looked out across the trees, he saw a deer coming to the stream that was running nearby.  It was obvious this deer was desperate for the cool water.  Her tongue was hanging out, the panting noises could be heard.  The stream was there to satisfy that longing, the urging.  She bent her head, took several long drinks, quenching the thirst that drove her to this stream.  The more she drank, the more she was satisfied.  What a picture “as a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God.”

During those seasons of darkness, or drought, it seems easier to focus on finding a way out the circumstances, the adversity, tackling the problem on our own – thirsting for relief of the situation, or a way to escape from enemies – thirsting for their destruction.

But this is the time to slow down, spend time soaking ourselves in the Word, letting the Spirit saturate us, spending intimate time with our Abba Father satisfying the urgingthat desperate thirst.

It’s only then do we find Him waiting for us, wanting to satisfy our every need.  That’s what He designed me for, to know Him.

About beegee10

I am a follower of Jesus on the journey of discovering His real, lasting joy through God's grace and thanksgiving. Several years ago, I married my best friend, whom I met in kindergarten many years ago. Life choices took each of us on separate paths, but Divine Appointment brought our paths back together. It's exciting to share this journey with my sweet man - a man who loves God more than he loves me! What a gift!! As a young woman I prayed for God to send a godly man like my daddy to pursue me. I just wasn't listening and abiding when I should have been. Good news in HIS time and in HIS grace, HE did! Not only does my sweet man love me, but he loves my three grown kids as if they were his own. He shares their joys and he hurts when they hurt. I love to hear him pray for each of them daily as we begin and end our days. View all posts by beegee10
