“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14
as Christmas day comes to a close, so many thoughts are stirring. a day spent with loved ones – family and friends, sharing in the joy of a couple’s first Christmas, the delight of having a little one around, opening gifts that were thoughtfully chosen, enjoying a most delicious meal, hearing lots of laughter, cherishing the time with the ones we were with, and missing the ones who weren’t there – praying they were safe, wherever they were.
but most importantly the day started and the day ends with thoughts of the reason we celebrate this day we call Christmas.
the birth of a baby boy who endured becoming man, setting aside His Glory, so that He could be born in a stable.
Immanuel – “GOD WITH US”
His mother wrapped him up, as we wrapped up our special gifts. the first Christmas gift was wrapped up just like those gifts under our tree, waiting to be open to reveal His Love to us. the angels announced “into your darkness, God brings light”
this Gift of Light, of His Presence that we celebrate today, is not only to be a gift we open once a year, but it’s ours every day, each and every day.
we remember this baby who became poor, so we could become rich. what a gift – the gift His Grace.
For you know the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9
